BMW Group Plant Wackersdorf is located about 50 kilometres north of Regensburg. Close by, just to the southwest, is the community of Wackersdorf, and to the north is the Upper Bavarian Palatinate lake district. The approx. 55-hectare site is home to the BMW Group and a number of its partners.
Since 1990 Wackersdorf has been the epitome of flexibility and versatility, specialising in the manufacturing of automotive interior components, material control, logistics and packing services for overseas BMW facilities, and production of doors, Hang-on Parts for Rolls-Royce. It is also home to the new BMW Group Safety Center, the first sections of which went on stream in the autumn of 2024. When the final sections are completed, Wackersdorf will be able to carry out rigorous testing on components and batteries from the early stages of their development.
Originally intended for a nuclear reprocessing plant in the 1980s, the Wackersdorf site is today home to BMW – the biggest employer – along with a number of other companies, giving it a special status among BMW Group sites.
