Welcome to BMW Group Plant Chennai.

BMW Group Plant Chennai was established in 2007 in Chengalpet, Tamil Nadu. Since then, the plant has grown in multi-fold ways, expanding the facility, increasing operations, growing manpower and substantially increasing localisation. State-of-the-art technology, highly skilled employees and advanced manufacturing processes provide all the necessary ingredients for the production of premium cars to the highest quality standards.

Today, BMW Group Plant Chennai locally produces ten models in India. This includes the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW 3 Series Long Wheelbase, BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase, BMW 7 Series Long Wheelbase, BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X5, BMW X7, BMW M340i and BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric. The plant has a capacity to roll-out 17,500 units in a single shift. Made in India BMW vehicles feature strong localisation of up to 50%.

Grey BMW 2 Series Grand Coupe

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. 

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is the entry into the stylish world of BMW and has been available as a locally produced model since 2020. The car brings BMW’s successful four-door coupé concept into the segment for the first time and injects a fresh dose of individuality, aesthetic appeal and emotional engagement to everyday usability.

The BMW 3 Series was the first car to roll-out of the assembly line at BMW Group Plant Chennai in 2007. In 2021, it was launched in a long wheelbase avatar, becoming the first BMW long wheelbase model in India. It has set new standards in its segment with an elongated design, enhanced space, luxurious comfort and dynamic performance.

Crafted for both luxury and finesse, the BMW 5 Series has been locally assembled since 2007. Since 2024, the model has been introduced in a long wheelbase for Indian market. It provides a completely new expression of modernity, presence and clarity, featuring unparalleled space and luxurious comfort.

The pinnacle of luxury automotive, the BMW 7 Series represents the very best of BMW’s luxury, craftsmanship and performance. The flagship model has been locally produced in BMW Group Plant Chennai since 2013. The 7 is the face of the new luxury class design language which stuns through its presence, progressiveness and emotion.

The BMW X1 remains a best-seller in its segment thanks to a supreme combination of comfort and luxury. Locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai since 2010, it embodies both the freedom in day-to-day city driving as well as the fun of sheer driving pleasure. It has the distinction of being the first locally produced BMW sports activity vehicle in India.

The BMW X3 has been locally produced in India since 2011. BMW X3 captures the perfect essence of an everyday sports activity vehicle in terms of size and performance. Its versatility delivers outstanding all-terrain performance, power and efficiency.

The BMW X7 is the most luxurious BMW sports activity vehicle on sale in India. Representing the pinnacle of luxury, craftsmanship and sheer driving pleasure, the BMW X7 has been locally assembled at BMW Group Plant Chennai since 2019. Its grandeur fascinates along with numerous innovations in design, powertrain, driver assistance, intuitive operation and intelligent connectivity.

In 2025, the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase became the first locally produced electric BMW in India. It is also the first long wheelbase sports activity vehicle from BMW India. A premium offering that offers practicality and sustainability, all in one package.
