The San Luis Potosí Plant strives to become the most efficient Plant in the use of resources within the BMW Group production network.

The Plant has adopted a series of initiatives for the efficient use of resources that also reduce its CO2 footprint. It is on track to become a carbon neutral production site by 2026.

Sustainable actions that could be mentioned are:

  • The San Luis Potosí Plant strives to remain the most resource-efficient Plant within the BMW Group production network.

SUSTAINABLE ACTIONS THAT COULD BE MENTIONED ARE:

    • With an investment of 3.3 million euros, BMW SLP expanded its wastewater treatment plant, doubling its capacity to supply treated wastewater, allowing it to be a reference in the use of treated water within the BMW production network Group.

    • The Paint Shop also has a system for recovering residual heat from oven exhaust gases, which is used in other processes. This technology saves 200 m3 of natural gas per month.

    • The Plant uses only electrical energy generated by renewable sources, which is generated through more than 71,000 m2 of solar panels within the Plant land, and also from an external solar park. The Plant is working on expanding the total surface area of panels within the Plant to 140,000 m2.

    • Additional energy saving measures include plant-wide LED lighting technology and factory smart insight sensors on production lines to measure the energy consumption of devices and equipment.

    • The Plant adopted a policy of completely avoiding the use of landfills since its start of production in 2019. 100% of the waste generated at the Plant is classified to facilitate recycling and avoid negative environmental impacts.

    • BMW SLP is currently evaluating the use of renewable biomethane for use as a heat source in paint ovens, air conditioning, ventilation and heating systems; in addition to the Plant kitchens.

Together with Waves for Water, BMW Group Mexico seeks to provide the surrounding community of San Luis Potosi with clean water as it is the basis for better health and a driver for a positive development for the society.

The company along with Waves for Water will provide three communities near the plant with filters to purify their drinking water.

The filters remove 99.99% of bacteria and cysts that cause waterborne diseases. In total 670 filters will be given to Puente de Tierra, Alamitosde Bledos, Presa El Organito and Tanque El Chayote.

This activity will reduce the economic impact caused by illnesses and the time consuming processes of acquiring potable water.
