Plant Hams Hall is a cutting-edge production facility located in North Warwickshire, not far from Birmingham, in the UK. It’s a part of the company’s global drivetrain division, committed to supporting BMW Group’s open technology approach to efficient mobility.

From producing the latest generation of engines and machining key engine components, to starting a journey towards new technologies, Plant Hams Hall is a high performing plant supplying engines for many of the latest products, powering MINI, BMW and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Since first opening in 2001, the plant has delivered both high-volume production as well as low-volume flexible manufacturing and special projects, making a long-term and valuable contribution to the success of BMW Group.

Plant Hams Hall is producing the latest generation of BMW TwinPower Turbo engines. This engine family is produced across BMW Group’s engine production network utilising a standardised system, resulting in a highly agile manufacturing network that’s flexible in responding quickly to customer demand and fluctuating markets.

Plant Hams Hall is focused on the high-volume production of three and four-cylinder petrol engine derivatives, powering BMW and MINI vehicles sold across the world, including plug-in hybrid models.

Since 2022, Plant Hams Hall has been entrusted with the production of the company’s prestigious V12 and V8 engines. Built with the highest attention to detail and absolute precision, these engines are powering premium products such as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and the M HYBRID system driving the latest BMW M5.

Machining of key engine components.

The Hams Hall plant has a modern, high-tech machining hall, operated by a team of highly skilled machinists. Core engine components - crankshafts, cylinder blocks and cylinder heads – are delivered to the plant as raw castings where they go through a series of machining operations with a high level of precision and accuracy. Finished components are transferred to the plant’s engine assembly hall, as well as being supplied to other engine manufacturing plants within the BMW Group production network.

At Plant Hams Hall, reducing the impact of production on the natural environment is key and has been an integral part of how the plant operates since the site was first designed and opened.

There’s a continuous improvement culture, with engagement across the workforce in placing a strong focus on rethinking, reducing, reusing and recycling. Combined with monitoring, transparency and investment in sustainable solutions, the plant delivers ongoing incremental improvements to avoid waste, use fewer resources, optimise energy efficiency and consistently reduce CO₂ emissions.
