Plant Berlin

Sustainability & Efficiency.

Sustainability is the core principle guiding the actions of both BMW Group Plant Berlin and the BMW Group. Assuming economic, environmental and social responsibility and acting with foresight is objective and responsibility alike.

The motorcycle production site right in the German capital of Berlin follows the "Clean Production" approach that applies to the entire production network, saving precious resources such as water, energy and material. State-of-the-art production technologies, such as the use of water-based paint, heat and power generation by means of an in-house CHP system as well as an internal treatment plant for water set high standards. An excellent example for cutting down on the amount of waste at the plant is the renewable, foldable transport equipment made of steel used for packing up BMW motorcycles for dispatch within Europe. These transport boxes have reduced packaging material waste by 1,000 tons a year.

Since May 2018, the production site has further strengthened its sustainability approach by putting up beehives on the premises, drawing employees’ and visitors’ attention to the great importance of bees in the ecosystem.
