San Luis Potosi, Mexico, February 27, 2015. Today the Governor of San Luis Potosi, Dr. Fernando Toranzo Fernández and the recently appointed General Manager of the future BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosi, Hermann Bohrer, put into operation the works of preparation for the land where the new installation of the company will be built.
In the presence of approximately 350 guests from the city, representatives of the State, neighbors and industrialists; Dr. Toranzo and Hermann Bohrer, officially started the work with heavy machinery for the adaptation of the land where the BMW Group plant will be built. In the next few months, the administration of the Logistik Park will be preparing roads, electrical installations and other infrastructure requirements towards the preparation of laying the first stone.
Dr. Toranzo welcomed the attendees and commented: "Having chosen us, BMW is telling the world that San Luis Potosi has the necessary manpower, infrastructure, investment support and geographic location to install, with wide margins of certainty, a company of this magnitude."
The director of the plant, Hermann Bohrer said: "We are taking the first steps in order to prepare the ground for the construction of our plant, a situation that we are very excited for, because the evolution of the BMW group in Mexico has been constant since 1994 when we started operations in the country."
At the beginning of 2015, the administrator of the Logistic Park, removed and properly relocated the flora and fauna in order to preserve the ecology of the land. These activities are coordinated under the responsibility of the authorities of the city and the State of San Luis Potosi.
Starting in December of last year, the BMW Group has signed the first local contracts in the area of human resources, which allow to start the project of the plant in San Luis Potosi. In January 2015 a new online portal was launched to announce open positions and since then, job offers have been published. In the coming months we will continue with the signing of more contracts.
Additionally, three office areas were put into operation within the city of San Luis Potosi: a human resources and recruitment center located in the heart of the city began operations; in the industrial area, a temporary Training Center is being prepared for the training of personnel; finally, in the industrial park, management offices were opened to coordinate the construction.
San Luis Potosi is an ideal location for the company and will represent an important area within the production network of the BMW Group, which is why a billion dollars will be invested in the manufacturing site in the coming years. The production is planned to start in 2019 and during that year, the workforce will reach 1,500 people. In the medium term, additional works will be created on the site of this new productive settlement of the BMW Group and its surroundings.
