Aiming to spark interest among primary school students in technology and sustainable mobility, in 2017 the BMW Group’s parent plant in Munich launched its Tech4Kids  project in cooperation with the Hanselmann Primary School in Milbertshofen, a Munich neighborhood. Together we want to convey technology and digitization in an exciting and child-friendly way. Since the project started, four additional schools from northern Munich neighborhoods have joined Tech4Kids – and with them about 1,000 children.

In a guided tour of the plant that has been specifically designed for children, the third-grade students learn about the steps necessary to build a car. In a subsequent workshop at the BMW Junior Campus called “Designing Mobility”, the children can put their new knowledge to practical use by building their own electrically-powered vehicles in small groups under the supervision of educators.

The fourth-grade students attend a workshop on digitalization after the plant tour and learn the first steps of programming a small Tinkerbots robot.
