WHERE INNOVATION MEETS TRADITION.
The electric and special engines production unit combines innovation and tradition in a very unique way: It produces special and replacement engines for all power trains currently installed in BMW Group vehicles – from the two-cylinder BMW i3 Range Extender to the 12-cylinder V12 engine for Rolls‑Royce. With drive trains ranging from the 1970s all the way to current series engines, experienced employees produce around 26,000 engines a year, with approximately 1,000 variants, for workshops and collectors all over the world. The special engine production team also builds remanufactured engines, which are bought back from customers when a replacement is made and rebuilt with the addition of new parts.
This wealth of engine know-how also benefits production of electric motors and engine-transmission units for BMW i models and MINI. The Range Extender, which is available as an option for the BMW i3, is also manufactured at our plant.
