Types of internships
Compulsory or voluntary internship.
Are you an enrolled student at university or are you in a gap year between two courses of study?
Conditions.
- Our internships are usually offered for 6 months.
- In the case of a compulsory internship, the duration generally depends on your study regulations and for voluntary internships, the duration is between 3 and 6 months.
- As a rule, internships are completed full-time, i.e. 35 hours per week.
- However, individual arrangements with the departments are possible at any time.
- Combinations of compulsory and voluntary internships or internship and theses are also possible, you will receive separate contracts in this case.
- The monthly payment depends on the corresponding degree programme (bachelor or master) in which the internship is completed, as well as the duration of the internship.

Technical pre-study internship.
You are planning on following a technical degree and want to obtain prior experience in the course of an internship. During our pre-study internships, we offer you the possibility to gain practical experience while preparing you excellently for your studies.
Internship abroad.
Have you always wanted to go abroad, look beyond your own nose, get to know another culture, gain new experiences? Then an assignment abroad is just the right thing for you. With a six-month internship at one of our international locations, you will get the chance to satisfy your wanderlust while getting to know the BMW Group internationally.

Student initiative NAWI.
NAWI is a student-founded initiative of the BMW Group. NAWI offers exchange and networking opportunities and organises exciting events at our various German locations. This way, you can network right from the start.
Own projects.
We place special emphasis on your professional and personal development. Therefore, you have the opportunity to take responsibility for your own exciting projects during your assignment.
Lecture series.
In order to know early on how you can continue with us after your internship, we regularly offer presentations on our entry-level programmes. Current participants in our different talent programmes will inform you about the programmes and answer your questions.
Regular Feedback.
During your internship at the BMW Group, you’ll be supported by a dedicated supervisor who guides you, provides strengths‑based development and gives you regular feedback. At the same time, your own feedback is just as important to us, helping us improve and offer you the best possible opportunities.

Showing initiative is expected of me. But the working environment here lets me be creative, so I come up with new ideas that I can bring to the table and thus add value as an intern as well.
Besides my interesting tasks in logistics, I was particularly impressed by the interpersonal aspects – the interaction between colleagues and how interns are integrated as full team members.
I like the informal working atmosphere in my team. But what I like best about my internship is that I can really get involved in research and innovation topics and also get to work on the test vehicles myself.
